About the Role

AGMDC is the RF and microwave design division of AmpliTech Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMPG), designing MMICs and subsystem hardware for SATCOM, defense, 5G, space, and quantum computing from simulation through packaged, tested hardware. We are looking for a senior MMIC Design Engineer who can own a design from specification through tape-out, test, and production, and who is comfortable working directly with customers and foundries in a small, hands-on team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead MMIC product development from customer requirements and specifications through tape-out, test, qualification, and production
  • Design GaAs and GaN MMICs, including LNAs, power amplifiers, switches, attenuators, phase shifters, and mixers, from microwave through mmWave frequencies
  • Perform circuit design using linear and nonlinear models, and verify layouts with 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic simulation
  • Prepare tape-outs and work directly with foundries on process selection, design rules, and wafer issues
  • Integrate MMICs into packaged modules and subsystems such as LNBs, working with the packaging and assembly team
  • Lead lab characterization of S-parameters, noise figure, power, efficiency, and linearity, and correlate measurements to simulation
  • Support proposals and customer technical discussions, including design reviews and performance tradeoffs
  • Mentor junior engineers, and publish and present technical work

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience, MS with 6+ years, or Ph.D. (RF/Microwave focus) with 4+ years
  • Proven record of successful MMIC tape-outs taken into production
  • Design experience with MMIC amplifiers, and some combination of switches, phase shifters, attenuators, or mixers
  • Strong working knowledge of GaAs and GaN semiconductor technologies
  • Proficiency with Microwave Office or ADS, and EM tools such as AXIEM, Analyst, Sonnet, Momentum, or HFSS
  • Hands-on experience with microwave measurements, including S-parameters, noise figure, power, efficiency, and linearity
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including with customers
  • US Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) for work on ITAR-controlled programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Low-noise amplifier and mmWave design experience for SATCOM, 5G, or defense applications
  • mmWave power amplifier design experience
  • Experience with SiGe or CMOS RFIC design
  • Experience with module and package-level design and EM co-simulation
  • Published papers or conference presentations (IEEE IMS, BCICTS, or similar)
